Favorite Items for the Pouch Reset Diet

This article is not sponsored

Hello there lovelies!

Whether you’re joining me in June for the pouch reset diet or just browsing for some ideas to kick start your weight loss once again, I’m sharing my favorite items and suggestions in this post.

You can find these all items online on in popular stores. I’ve included some of links for your convenience.

Day 1

  • Clear liquids only.
    • Water
    • Broth
    • Jell-O (sugar free)
    • Decaf tea
    • Decaf coffee
    • Sugar free Popsicles
    • Sugar free drinks that are not carbonated.
Clear liquids diet- Yes, Jell-o is part of the liquids diet! This is great news in case you miss “chewing” πŸ™‚
Sugar free Popsicles are quite refreshing and provide texture variety. I call these “life savers” during the clear liquid phase.
Tea is a free for all- without sugar or milk- at least on the first day

If you go hard in the gym, you should totally incorporate some BCAA’s

You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/Rich-Piana-5-Nutrition-ALLDAYYOUMAY/dp/B01IIHJT30/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=all%2Bday%2Byou%2Bmay&qid=1559267660&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&th=1

Day 2 and 3

  • Full liquids.
    • Protein powder mixed with a sugar free non-carbonated clear liquid.
    • Sugar free pudding.
    • Soup with soft noodles.
    • Non-fat yogurt
    • Carnation instant breakfast. Sugar free option.
    • Very thin creamed soups. No chunks.
    • Sugar free sorbet.
    • Very thin hot oatmeal. Check the sugar content.
    • Diluted no-sugar added juice.
    • Sugar free, nonfat ice cream.
    • Thinned applesauce.
    • Remember the goal is to not eat or drink anything that is going to stretch your stomach. So drink or eat these in very small amounts and limit your intake to very thin/liquid consistency foods.

Best personal blender I’ve ever had! I love green smoothies but I like to “drink” my smoothies and not “chew” the bits. This blender is by far the best one I’ve ever tried and it’s moderately priced. If you’re serious about smoothies (and hate chunks), this is a must. I got mine from Amazon.com
Here’s the link! https://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Personal-Extraction-Smoothies-BL456/dp/B00Y2U1QUM/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=ninja+blender&qid=1559267527&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1
Green Smoothie time!
Spinach, cucumber, ginger, assorted berries, kale, a touch of lemon juice, water, ice- Blend and enjoy!
Creamy soups! yum!
This Oikos Triple Zero is so rich and smooth.

This is one of my favorite protein shakes because it doesn’t taste too “protein-y”
More essentials for the full liquids phase

Day 4 to 6

  • Pureed foods.
    • Almond milk or coconut milk makes a great protein shake.
    • Hummus
    • Cottage cheese (low fat)
    • Soft cereals – Let your cereal sit in the non-fat milk until it’s soft.
    • Soups – no chunks
    • Scrambled eggs – these are a great source of protein.
    • If you can puree the food, it’s acceptable as long as it’s healthy and easy to digest.
    • It’s best to stay away from meat at this point.
    • Again, you are trying to reduce the size of your stomach so no solid foods at this point.
Soft cottage cheese is filling and full of protein.
Scrambled eggs with cottage cheese and pureed (seasoned) beans
These Green Giant brand mashed cauliflower can be found in the freezer isle. They are economical and provide some convenience.
This unorthodox mix is surprisingly delish! Mashed sweet potatoes, guacamole, ricotta, and I added Sriracha for an additional kick.
Let’s not forget hummus during this stage… Hmmm.. Hummus
This was my take on a Mexican inspired bowl: Ducal refried beans, guacamole, Tajin, and a sprinkle of cheese

I love Ducal beans, here’s a link where you can find them: https://www.amazon.com/Ducal-Red-Refried-Beans-Ounce/dp/B06Y2CGRGC/ref=sr_1_7?crid=111WZQDIIWTDC&keywords=ducal+refried+beans&qid=1559410064&s=pantry&sprefix=ducal+%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-7

Also, Tajin is a seasoning mix that contains lemon and a bit of heat. Here’s where I found mine: https://www.walmart.com/ip/2-Pack-Tajin-To-Go-Packets-Cl-sico-Seasoning-with-Lime-0-035-oz-25-pack/491620734

Day 7 to 9

  • Soft foods.
    • Soft cereals – Let your cereal sit in the non-fat milk until it’s soft.
    • Soft vegetables – steam or boil them until they are soft.
    • Soft cheeses – limit these, they are typically high in fat.
    • Ground chicken or beef. Add some beef or chicken stock to keep the meat soft.
    • Soups
    • Scrambled eggs – these are a great source of protein.
    • Soft (steamed) fish. Remember to chew well.
    • Canned tuna and salmon (you can add low fat mayo). Great source of protein.
    • Mashed fruit. Bananas, avocados, and canned fruit (watch sugar content).
Let the cereal get soft.
Steam veggies
round meat, chicken, or turkey work best at this point
Or you can have some very soft fish

Day 10 and Beyond

  • Healthy foods.
  • Introduce these foods slowly and in healthy portions. The size of your fist should be the size of an entire meal.
  • Typically, a post bariatric surgery diet will focus on protein and vegetables but always consult with your surgeon.
  • Drink liquids at least 30 minutes prior to eating and 30 minutes after eating.
  • Eat slowly. Allow at least 30 minutes per meal. Chew well.
  • Fruits are typically OK in moderation. Stay away from sugar and nutrient lacking carbohydrates (pasta).
  • Track what you eat on a daily basis.
Yes, you can have meat at this stage, but fish remains an excellent source of protein
Chicken salad in lettuce leaves is so easy to make. You can even use canned chicken breast for this one!
Look at that! fish again πŸ™‚ and mushrooms for all their goodness!
And don’t forget scrambled eggs are still good at this stage.

Lastly…

You can use a bariatric bowl for portion control at this stage.

I got mine from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Bariatric-Portion-Control-Weight-Surgery/dp/B072K4DFMN/ref=sr_1_21_sspa?crid=95XYN3T6MNVG&keywords=portion+control+plates&qid=1559410783&s=gateway&sprefix=portion+control%2Caps%2C153&sr=8-21-spons&psc=1

Continue good habits: Exercise regularly, drink your water, limit snacks, meal prep to avoid temptation, say no.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

It will not be easy, but we must persevere. Bariatric surgery is a lifelong commitment.
